We watched the Amoeba Sisters video on cell division. Students answered questions during the video and then we went over them as a class.

Students continued working on their Week of Wonder. We discussed making sure that they have a works cited.

I walked around and asked a question to each student about their topic. The information they were able to share was very interesting.

Here is a link to some simulations/games that can be used to help understand the process of the cell cycle more thoroughly.

Many students worked on the Order of the Cell Cycle quiz today with very good results. Others continued to work on other assignments.

Dec 11th - 7th grade

Students had a few minutes to work on their mitosis steps predictions. We agreed that most groups had no idea how the steps progressed.

We then worked on a KWL to identify what we did know:


We then discussed what the students will have to know about the steps of the cell cycle and mitosis. We will cover these before winter break.

Students worked on their plans, 4 square, and rock cycle diagrams. If students got their plans approved they were able to work on research for their Week Of Wonder projects.

We went over answers to last night's transport chart.

Dec 6th - 8th grade

Students began working on their "passion bracket challenge". This is used to see where students are most excited to learn about. This needs to be completed by Friday along with their Rock Cycle Diagram.

Dec 5th - 7th grade

We finished our "doodle notes" on transportation.



Students then checked answers to the fill in the blank notes.

Students finished by completing the cell transport chart.

TEST THURSDAY ON NOTEBOOK PAGES 28 - 44 (including other handouts/assignments).

Dec 5th- 8th grade

Students worked on their labs/rock cycle diagrams for 10 minutes.

Students were then introduced to the WEEK OF WONDER project. This is our take on "genius hour" from the google corporation. Students will begin working on planning their own learning for next week.

Lab is due tomorrow and rock cycle diagram is due Friday.

Dec 4 - 7th grade

Students wrote down grades and wrote the test in their planner pages. The test will be this Thursday on pages 28 until the end.

We then worked on notes to understand concentration better.

Nov 28 - 7th grade

Students started the class working in their notebooks.
We then went over the Energy For Life Worksheet.


We then discussed how to balance the equations for cell respiration and photosynthesis. This lead to the students discovering that one process led to the other. Sort of like an "energy cycle".

Nov 28 - 8th grade

We went over correct answers to the Sedimentary Rock packet.

Students then played two rounds of Rock and Minerals Kahoot.

Students received their lab handouts and were told to read over them for homework. We will start the lab tomorrow.

Nov 27 - 7th grade

Students checked grades and received quizzes from last week back.

We discussed what I was able to see from quiz scores (we have a basic understanding of cellular respiration, but are still confused on the movement of cellular materials). We will work on this more this week.

We then went over the notebook page for fermentation.

The Energy For Life Worksheet from Wednesday is due tomorrow. Will be based on completion and effort.

Students checked their grades. They were asked to click on the individual class for science and double check each score.

We then did a review of the process of photosynthesis and respiration using nearpod.

Nov 17 -7th grade

Students were given the opportunity to check that things were in the correct spot in their notebook (I read the page number and showed what should go there for pages 32-39). During this we also went over correct answers to the variables brain work (page 37).

Students then read a handout about the process of cellular respiration. 

As a class, we put the notebook page together with the mitochondria as a flip up cover to the parts of the process.



Nov 17- 8th

Students began looking at how minerals are formed.

We then watched a video on rocks and minerals and filled out a worksheet. This video helped students see examples of rocks turning into minerals and minerals turning into rocks.

Comic strip is due monday.

Students and I discussed the answers to the Moving Cellular Materials WS.

Students had time to work on:

1) putting their photosynthesis page in their notebooks.
2) Finish their review/brain work before tomorrow.
3) Work on corrections for vaccine argument or lab write up. These need to be completed by Monday.

Nov 16- 8th grade

Students had a discussion about the review and brain questions from page 47. We then talked about the activity from yesterday.

Students were then assigned the comic strip activity and began working on it.

We went over variables again. This was needed based on the lack of understanding during the last lab.

Students then worked to complete their measurements of the Gummy Bear Lab.

Students put pages from our covalent packet into their notebooks on page 38 and 39.

Students finished page 30 in their notebook.

Students turned in the homework assignment from last night (the periodic table information with protons, neutrons, and electrons).

We then discussed how electrons are arranged in energy levels focusing on two things:
1) electrons fill from the inside out
2) they follow the rule of 2,8,8,2

Students went to the gym and organized clues about electrons into the correct elements.



 Students should attempt the energy level diagrams for homework.
