Nov 29 - 7th grade

Students took a quiz on Respiration, Photosynthesis, and the energy cycle.

Students then began preparing for their lab tomorrow. If they do not have their problem statement, hypothesis, and variables done before class tomorrow they will not be allowed in to work on the lab.

Nov 29 - 8th grade

Students began working on the rock identification lab.

Nov 28 - 7th grade

Students started the class working in their notebooks.
We then went over the Energy For Life Worksheet.

We then discussed how to balance the equations for cell respiration and photosynthesis. This lead to the students discovering that one process led to the other. Sort of like an "energy cycle".

QUIZ TOMORROW ON PAGES 38 TO 44 IN THE STUDENT NOTEBOOKS.

Nov 28 - 8th grade

We went over correct answers to the Sedimentary Rock packet.

Students then played two rounds of Rock and Minerals Kahoot.

Students received their lab handouts and were told to read over them for homework. We will start the lab tomorrow.

Nov 27 - 7th grade

Students checked grades and received quizzes from last week back.

We discussed what I was able to see from quiz scores (we have a basic understanding of cellular respiration, but are still confused on the movement of cellular materials). We will work on this more this week.

We then went over the notebook page for fermentation.

The Energy For Life Worksheet from Wednesday is due tomorrow. Will be based on completion and effort.

Nov 27 - 8th grade

Students checked grades. Some classes received their Show What You Know papers back

We discussed metamorphic rocks and looked at examples

students worked on understanding sedimentary rocks.

Nov 21 - 7th grade

Students took a reading quiz on the cellular respiration reading handout.

We then watched the video and went over answers to the first page of the handout.

Students then worked in groups to answer the second page of the handout.

QUIZ TOMORROW ON NOTEBOOK PAGES 28-33.

Nov 21 - 8th grade

We went over the igneous rock chart together as a class.

Students then worked in groups to:
1) complete the igneous rock WS
2) get pages put into their notebook
3) identify different types of igneous rocks.

Nov 20 - 7th grade

Students checked their grades. They were asked to click on the individual class for science and double check each score.

We then did a review of the process of photosynthesis and respiration using nearpod.

We finished by watching the following video from the amoeba sisters:

Homework: Reading quiz tomorrow over the Cellular Respiration packet.
Quiz over notebook pages 28-33 on wednesday.

Nov 20 - 8th grade

students checked grades and received papers back.

Students turned in their comic strips.

Students began reading and filling in the igneous rock chart page for their notebooks.

Basaltic and Granitic columns need to be completed for tomorrow.

Nov 17 -7th grade

Students were given the opportunity to check that things were in the correct spot in their notebook (I read the page number and showed what should go there for pages 32-39). During this we also went over correct answers to the variables brain work (page 37).

Students then read a handout about the process of cellular respiration.

As a class, we put the notebook page together with the mitochondria as a flip up cover to the parts of the process.

Nov 17- 8th

Students began looking at how minerals are formed.

We then watched a video on rocks and minerals and filled out a worksheet. This video helped students see examples of rocks turning into minerals and minerals turning into rocks.

Comic strip is due monday.

Thursday, November 16, 2017

Nov 16th - 7th grade

Students and I discussed the answers to the Moving Cellular Materials WS.

Students had time to work on:

1) putting their photosynthesis page in their notebooks.
2) Finish their review/brain work before tomorrow.
3) Work on corrections for vaccine argument or lab write up. These need to be completed by Monday.

Nov 16- 8th grade

Students had a discussion about the review and brain questions from page 47. We then talked about the activity from yesterday.

Students were then assigned the comic strip activity and began working on it.

Nov 15th - 7th

We went over variables again. This was needed based on the lack of understanding during the last lab.

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

Nov 15 - 8th

We went over the correct answers to the mineral ws.

Then, we went to the Lego gym to walk through the Rock Cycle

Tuesday, November 14, 2017

Nov 14th- 7th grade

Students and I reviewed how materials move through the cell.

Students received a worksheet on moving cellular materials that is due tomorrow.

We reviewed Photosynthesis as they learned in the computer lab.

Nov 14th - 8th grade

Students took a quiz on chemical or physical changes.

Students began learning about minerals (notes and ws from book).

Monday, November 13, 2017

Nov 13th- 7th grade

Students wrote down their grades for this week.

Students then got their rubrics back from their lab write up. Below is an analysis of the scores:
In short, not good.

Students were to write this on the back and get a parent signature:

Computer simulation sheet is due tomorrow.

Nov 13 - 8th grade

Students checked grades and wrote them down.
We turned in the "Show What You Know" assignment
We reviewed page 44 and 45 on Physical and chemical changes (quiz tomorrow)
Students began worked on the change worksheet and turned it in.

There is a quiz tomorrow over types of changes.
